Artifact 1.0 unpacking — A new app from Instagram founders
Instagram creators Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have released the Artifact news reader app a few days ago. Many have already called it TikTok for Text. This is a personalized news feed app that uses machine learning to craft and collect user’s interests. The app’s personalized feed publishes content from leading media sources. The principles of Artifact are similar to TikTok algorithms.
Kevin Systrom said that Artifact is a potential competitor to Twitter for reading news and articles. The founders have not yet decided on a business model. Systrom considers advertising harmful and too obvious for this stage. The entrepreneur is considering revenue-sharing deals with the media: if Artifact becomes popular, the media will be able to reach new audiences through the app.
- At the moment, the application is only available via Invite invitations.
- Artifact has been installed a little over 1000 times. At the time of my installation, there just ~ 300 installations (please do not ask where I got Invite from).
The application allows you to select categories of interests, news sources and the frequency of new news in the feed. Each user has the ability to generate only 4 invitations.
Unfortunately, I can’t share my invites with everyone, but I’m happy to showcase an early stage product via video.
